How long does it take?

Whew - this took longer than expected. How long does an illustration usually take you? How many hours a day are you actively working on a finish?

Kelly this turned out beautiful!!! Such a great portfolio piece!

Lots of things happening and you really worked it out. I specially love the characters and colors. They characters are so real and unique. They seem softer than your usual style and I like it a lot!
The colors are perfect. A smart way to handle all those details and not have your eye wandering like crazy everywhere.

As to how long a piece takes, I say it really depends on the style. The more details there are on a piece, the more time it takes to finish it. So I'm guessing that is why it took you longer than expected. But I say it was worth it, no? :o)

I'd say it depends on the size and complexity, too. A day? A few days? For me, I need to build in a of of breaks to keep coming back to it with fresh eyes...

Wow this is great! I love the colors and the textures. The characters are perfect. I really love the older woman next to the child.

Great piece Kelly! This is far more complex than most of my work, it would easily take me 2-3 full days (including breaks, as Jennifer mentioned) for this. Even longer if I didn't have my back against the wall with a deadline. Usually the deadline forces my hand (literally) in how complicated I make the initial sketches - I can't submit a sketch that I can't paint in the time given. Some jobs have mandated a page (or two - a spread) a day to stay on track.

Wow, love the piece reminds me of when my grandparents were alive and we had family gatherings with gumbo in New Orleans..

Hum. I would say it could take any thing from 2 days to 5 (usually 2 days drawing, 2 to 3 painting, I can cut that down if needed). It usually depends on details involved.. but I usually loose track since I have to do several at once. Im trying to get my speed up.

Love the christmas music.

BRILLIANT work-- really love the whole layout and the characters are so expressive. I can only imagine how long it took to draw this many characters in the same scene.
