2012 arrived- and I could not give 2011 the finger!

Yup. I'm kinda happy 2011 is gone. I felt like crap all year. The holidaze came and found my right hand, the hand I draw with- shriveled. My middle finger decided to turn into a cooked shrimp in my palm. All of the tendons tightened and it locked in and out of place along with a lot of pain.

Thing about the ever useful middle finger is- it drags it's neighbors down with it.

I could not draw. I tried. I got frustrated. I drew the holiday card down below by taping the wacom pen to a splint.

Good times!

Not being able to draw is inconceivable to me.

So - I have had some health issues for a very long time. I have been to many many doctors who have pretty much told me I was nuts. I chose to go to a doctor that was non traditional. She told me I was not nuts. This week I went on thyroid medication. As a result, my finger uncurled.

My finger is now free to flip the bird.

Yes - 3 days and it moves and doesn't lock up! Such a small movement- allows you to do or not do so much. Couldn't braid my daughter's hair, open a jar, go to the gym.... such a small body part caused all kinds of frustration and worry and now.. relief. Ahhhhhhhhh....

If you see me and I flip you the bird, take no offense please. I'm really just rejoicing in the motor skill freedom I have regained!

So I doodled today for the first time.

Who else is watching Downton Abbey!?!?!?  Who else freakin LOVES it?  It has got to be a cut above the average historic costume drama- cause my husband usually runs screaming from them to the safety of his sci fi movies. He's hooked. My Mom's hooked. So many friends are hooked.

And out of all of this Turn of the Century British Greatness- rises the greatest of all. Maggie Smith.

I love her and always have but- she seems to get better and better.

So I doodled her. It's what came out of the hand- maybe I'll take it further, but I am rusty. I usually don't show stuff this rough but- today, I am thrilled by the act of drawing- and don't care a fig about the results!!

I hope we all have healthy , happy, productive, art filled - 2012's !!!!

So sorry about your health issues, but happy to hear you can give people the finger again!!! (BTW, don't you just love it when doctors tell you that you're nuts? Argh! Going thru a bit of that right now myself. Doesn't seem to happen to guys as much either, but that's another issue.)

Love the new drawing! Keep it up!

Hon, you have more raw talent in that curled up shrimpy finger than the lot of us. I glimpsed (without reading) at your sketch and saw Maggie Smith. I hope you get a fleshy, flexible finger (and hand) back lickety-split.

So glad that you're able to doodle again. As one of the comments above said, you have more talent in that one poor middle finger than most of the rest of us!

I love her! Her hat, her posture, her expression! Fantastic!! I thought something was wacky with my music, I was playing jazz the same time your music was playing! Same time period, but different songs...I was freaking out! ; ) I'm so glad to hear you're feeling better, and that you're able to draw too. It's limbo, and very frustrating! : )

Wow! Glad to hear it was a relatively easy fix (too bad it took so long for someone to figure it out though!). I've been on thyroid meds since high school (low). I'm always amazed at how many problems a messed up thyroid can give a person. Hmmm. So happy to hear you're on the mend! Love your sketch!!!

She's marvelous! I am sooooo happy for you, Kelly. You are too talented not to share your work with the world.

You and I have met in person so you know I walk with a cane. I wanted to flip 2010 the bird. To go from an athlete to a handicapped person is a very difficult transition. But with support from friends, you can get thru it.

I hope you continue to improve!

Kelly! For a rough the Dowager is amazing, but I feel that way about all of your work; rough or not. On a personal note: My thyroid was removed at age 18. I am now 42...I know what feeling like CRAP all the time is all about so if you ever need to talk about it just reach out. It is a silent and insidious disease that is so very lonely because we look, for all account, healthy and normal but on the inside our bodies function about 50 tics slower. Glad you found some answers and are getting relief.

You guys are so sweet! 4th day and the finger continues to get better! I am amazed how many people have told me that they too, have thyroid problems! I had my main Dr. tell me I was being "a hysterical woman- there's no real thyroid problem, get used to it, you are just fat.Accept it!"

I hope you we all feel better.

Thanks so much for the support! Thanks for the sharing and the ego boosting!

You are each owed a hug!
